The view from the AOS Technical Building
This is the view out of the ALMA Array Operations Site (AOS) Technical Building, the second highest building in the world. Sitting at an altitude of 5000 metres atop the Chajnantor Plateau in the Chilean Andes, this building houses one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world. The ALMA correlator enables the ALMA antennas, many of which can be seen in this spectacular shot, to work together as a single, giant telescope.
