Webcast Speaker: Leonardo Testi
About the scientist:
Leonardo is the European ALMA Programme Scientist. He ensures that ALMA delivers transformational science through its lifetime, checking the compliance with scientific requirements during construction, developing science priorities for upgrades and monitoring its scientific use by the ESO Member States community.
About the webcast presentation:
"The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA)"
In this brief talk Leonardo will summarise why ESO has been developing submillimetre astronomical facilities, culminating in the construction of ALMA in a global partnership with East Asia, North America and the host country Chile. He will show some of the challenges in building ALMA and will conclude showing some of the transformational results about our cosmic origins from the first year of ALMA science operations.
