Rules for Choose What the VLT Observes

  1. You, the participant, must identify yourself with a valid email address. These email addresses are requested only to identify voters and so that we can contact you in case you win. We will not use these addresses for other purposes, and we will not distribute the list in any way. You may however choose to subscribe to the ESO Newsletter at the same time as entering.
  2. The deadline for votes is 31 August 2012 23:59:59 CEST. Check your time zone here.
  3. Anyone may vote, but people working for ESO, and their immediate family and household, are not eligible to win.
  4. You can vote multiple times, but only the last vote from any given email address will be counted. Previous votes will be discarded.
  5. You may not create multiple email accounts to make multiple entries for one person. Anyone found using multiple accounts to enter will be ineligible.
  6. ESO will draw the winners from all the valid votes.
  7. ESO will contact the winners using the email address to organise the shipment of the prizes. If the winner’s email address is not valid, or we do not receive a reply within 7 days, the prize will be forfeit and another winner will be chosen.
  8. ESO may publish the name and country of the winner on our website and in other promotional material when publishing the result of the contest.
  9. By accepting the prize, the winner agrees that ESO can use his or her name and image in publications, on www.eso.org and elsewhere.
  10. The first prize is a new iPad and a set of ESO promotional products (such as posters, books and DVDs). The 2nd to 11th prizes consist of sets of ESO promotional products.
  11. ESO will do everything possible to observe the object that received the largest number of votes. Nevertheless, it is possible that technical or meteorological issues will prevent us from doing so.
  12. The decisions of ESO on all matters related to the contest are final.
  13. ESO reserves the right to cancel or modify this contest or its terms at any time.
