For første gang har astronomerne observeret både tyngdekraftsbølger og lys (elektromagnetisk stråling) fra samme hændelse. Det sker takket være et verdensomspændende samarbejde, og hurtige reaktioner både ved ESOs anlæg og ved andre observatorier Verden rundt.
