La Silla waking up

This image shows the La Silla Observatory at dusk. The fog hovering the Atacama desert is glowing white, but the telescopes at La Silla are located high up on the mountaintop above these clouds. The streak of lights in the distance come from cars on a road, but apart from that there is only little light around La Silla — perfect conditions for an observatory.
