Infračervený přístroj HAWK-I na dalekohledu ESO VLT (Very Large Telescope) v Chile se zadíval do srdce mlhoviny v Orionu mnohem hlouběji, než kdokoli či cokoli předtím. Pozoruhodný snímek odhaluje asi desetkrát víc hnědých trpaslíků a osamělých objektů s hmotností typickou pro planety, než bylo dosud známo. Tento objev představuje výzvu pro doposud přijímanou představu historie tvorby hvězd v Orionu.
