Na záběrech získaných pomocí dalekohledu ESO/VLT a kosmického teleskopu HST (NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope) se astronomům podařilo objevit dosud neznámé struktury v prachovém disku kolem nedaleké hvězdy. Rychle se pohybující vlnové útvary v disku kolem hvězdy AU Microscopii se nepodobají ničemu, co bylo dosud pozorováno nebo předpovězeno. Původ a povaha těchto struktur představuje pro astronomy novou záhadu, kterou je potřeba vyřešit. Výsledky byly zveřejněny 8. října 2015 ve vědeckém časopise Nature.
