Na základě mohutného devíti gigapixelového snímku složeného ze záběrů získaných pomocí přehlídkového dalekohledu pro infračervenou oblast ESO/VISTA (Paranal, Chile) vytvořil mezinárodní tým astronomů katalog více jak 84 milionů hvězd nacházejících se v centrální části naší Galaxie. Tento obří datový soubor obsahuje desetkrát více hvězd než předchozí katalogy a představuje významný krok k pochopení struktury naší domovské Galaxie. Uvedený snímek poskytuje zvětšovatelný pohled na její v centrální část. Obrázek je tak velký, že vytištěný ve standartním rozlišení by měřil 9x7 m.
