Astronomové zveřejnili nové snímky nedalekých galaxií, které na těchto působivých záběrech připomínají pestrobarevný kosmický ohňostroj. Fotografie pořízené dalekohledem ESO/VLT zachycují různé části galaxií v odlišných barvách, což astronomům umožňuje odhalit polohu skupin mladých hvězd obklopených ohřátým plynem. Kombinací těchto pozorování s daty pořízenými radioteleskopem ALMA, jehož evropským partnerem je ESO, by vědci rádi odpověděli na otázku, co nutí oblaky plynu tvořit nové hvězdy.
