Mimořádně citlivý přístroj GRAVITY přinesl další důkaz dlouho předpokládané přítomnosti superhmotné černé díry ve středu naší Galaxie. Nová pozorování zachycují shluk plynu obíhající po kruhové dráze rychlostí až 30 % rychlosti světla těsně nad horizontem událostí černé díry. Poprvé v historii se podařilo takto detailně sledovat hmotu obíhající v blízkosti černé díry – nedaleko „oblasti, odkud není návratu“.
