EU ARC CASA tutorial for Cycle 0 projects

19 and 20 January 2012, ESO Garching

The workshop is aimed at members of the European ALMA community who are involved in accepted Cycle 0 projects.

It will be an intensive two day tutorial with several hands-on sessions in which you will learn how to perform general ALMA data calibration and imaging with the data reduction package CASA.

Please note that for detailed help with the analysis of your own ALMA data, you have the opportunity to visit your ARC node for face-to-face support. During the tutorial in January, we will not have the opportunity to provide extensive data reduction support for individual projects.

You will need a reasonably powerful laptop (Linux or Mac OSX 10.6 or 10.7) with at least 150 GB empty disk space.

Location

This tutorial will take place at ESO, Garching (travel information) in room D029 (in building D, please ask at the reception in the main building)

For help with booking a hotel, please contact the secretariat of the ESO Data Management Division, Stella Chasiotis.

Notes on the hands-on sessions

Hand-on sessions will use ALMA Science Verification data which we will make available for download in January.

You will need a reasonably powerful laptop (Linux or Mac OSX 10.6 or 10.7) with at least 150 GB empty disk space.

You should install CASA on that laptop before the workshop. Please see the CASA download page for how to do that.

If you are having problems with CASA installation (which is unusual), please contact us before the workshop and we can find a solution.

What you can do to prepare for the workshop

Read in the CASA user reference and cookbook.

Go through at least one of the ALMA Guides for CASA.
