It will be an intensive two day tutorial with several hands-on sessions in which you will learn how to perform general ALMA data calibration and imaging with the data reduction package CASA. Please note that for detailed help with the analysis of your own ALMA data, you have the opportunity to visit your ARC node for face-to-face support. During the tutorial in January, we will not have the opportunity to provide extensive data reduction support for individual projects. You will need a reasonably powerful laptop (Linux or Mac OSX 10.6 or 10.7) with at least 80 GB empty disk space. ---+++ Location This tutorial will take place at [[http://www.eso.org/public/about-eso/travel.html][ESO, Garching (travel information)]] in *room D029* (in building D, please ask at the reception in the main building) For help with booking a hotel, please contact the secretariat of the ESO Data Management Division, [[mailto:smchasio@eso.org][Stella Chasiotis]]. ---+++ Program The tutorial will begin at 9:00 on Thursday and will end at 17:00 on Friday |19 January, room D29 ||| |09:00| intro/welcome etc - DP/MZ |[[%ATTACHURL%/intro-eso-0112.pdf][intro]]| |09:15| talk - intro to ALMA (and interferometry) - MZ |[[%ATTACHURL%/Intro_CASA_PI_Workshop_Zwaan_Jan2012.key.pdf][ALMA+Interferometry]]| |09:45| talk - general CASA, the MS, and the ASDM - DP |[[%ATTACHURL%/casa-intro-eso-0112.pdf][casa]], [[%ATTACHURL%/asdms-dpetry-eso-0112.pdf][asdm+ms]]| |10:35| talk - the typical ALMA data package for PIs - FS |[[%ATTACHURL%/data_delivery.pdf][data_delivery]]| |10:50| coffee || |11:15| talk - calibration - FG || |12:00| explanation of hands-on sessions - DP |[[%ATTACHURL%/hands-on-session-1-of-2-eso-0112.pdf][hands-on-session-1]]| |12:30| lunch (room D30)|| |14:00| hands-on - all |[[http://almascience.eso.org/arcdistribution/casa-tutorials/7a76f411abc50757f2daa53399d20fe0/reduce-m100-with-problems.py][script]] (data: see notes below)| |16:00| coffee || |16:30| review and Q&A - all || |17:30| end of day 1 || | ||| |20 January, room D29 ||| |09:00| talk - a closer look at CASA - DP |[[%ATTACHURL%/casa--a-closer-look-eso-0112-dpetry.pdf][casa--a-closer-look]]| |09:30| talk - Imaging - MZ || |10:30| coffee || |10:45| talk - image analysis - SM || |11:30| talk - self-calibration - AR || |12:15| explanation of hands-on sessions - DP |[[%ATTACHURL%/hands-on-session-2-of-2-eso-0112.pdf][hands-on-session-2]]| |12:30| lunch (room D30)|| |14:00| hands-on - all |[[http://almascience.eso.org/arcdistribution/casa-tutorials/7a76f411abc50757f2daa53399d20fe0/M100all_lores.ms.tgz][M100all_lores.ms.tgz]] (600 MB, result of step 16 from session 1),| |||[[http://almascience.eso.org/arcdistribution/casa-tutorials/7a76f411abc50757f2daa53399d20fe0/selfcal-ngc3256-with-problems.py][script2]] (data: see notes below)| |16:00| coffee || |16:30| review and Q&A || |17:00| end of meeting || ---+++ Notes on the hands-on sessions Hand-on sessions will use ALMA Science Verification datasets.
