Galactic backlighting
In this view are visible Yepun (UT4) and Melipal (UT3), two of the four Unit Telescopes of the VLT complex at Cerro Paranal, with the illuminated background of the galactic center. Our Galaxy, the Milky Way, is easily recognizable in the night sky as a "fuzzy cloud" during winter months in the Southern hemisphere. Its center is located roughly 30.000 light-years away, looking toward the Scorpius and Sagittarius constellations.
