The ESO 3.6-metre telescope at La Silla at night
Nighttime view of ESO's 3.6-metre telescope performing its duties at ESO's La Silla observation site. La Silla, 2400 metres above sea level in the southern part of the Atacama desert of Chile, was ESO's first observation site. Telescopes there include the New Technology Telescope (NTT) and the 2.2-m Max-Planck-ESO telescope. La Silla also hosts national telescopes, such as the 1.2-m Swiss Telescope and the 1.5-m Danish Telescope.
