Centre of the Active Galaxy NGC 5728
This is a photo of an active galaxy that was observed with ISAAC during the programme being carried out. It shows NGC 5728 (K-band). The bar-like structure and the luminous centre where the Black Hole is located is visible. The distance to this galaxy is approximately 120 million light-years; the local scale is indicated in the photo.
Technical information: this image of the central region of NGC 5728 was obtained at the 3.5-m Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) and the Adaptive-Optics PUEO instrument; the K-band (2.3 µm) exposure lasted 60 sec and the field measures 38 X 38 arcsec 2. North is up and East is left.
