Working inside Kueyen
A 360-degree panoramic view inside Kueyen, the second of the four 8.2-metre VLT Unit Telescopes. In the picture, engineers are seen doing maintenance work, particularly on the spectrographic instrument X-Shooter. This is the instrument installed at the telescope's Cassegrain focal station, located below the primary mirror cell. The cell is the white structure which supports the 8.2-metre-diameter primary mirror, here seen at the centre of the picture.
