E-ELT Dome Section
Section view of the E-ELT dome. This dome design, presented in November 2008 at the Baseline Reference Design version 3, is the result for a detailed design study and was realised together with ESO's industrial partners. The dome is about 80 m high and has a foot print of about 100 m diameter - the size of a small stadium. The elevation axis of the telescope sits 37 m above ground (higher than a VLT dome). The infrastructure includes items such as a lifting platform to bring the cameras to the telescope platforms, main and auxiliary cranes, full air conditioning, and more.
