Extracted Observing Reports for 170.A-0788(B): Night information

Telescope: Yepun (UT4)
Instrument: FORS2

This is a summary of night log information extracted for all those nights which got observations for your run and which are contained in this data delivery.

This information has been extracted from a database which contains information ingested during the nights. The database is also maintained to reflect e.g. a posteriori updates of the OB grading.

This report is structured into two parts:
- breakdown by nights (this page)
- breakdown by OBs.

This page is an extraction of general night information for all nights with OBs in this data delivery. Usually an OB will produce files but there are exceptions, e.g. when an OB is aborted due to degrading conditions. Therefore there might be entries in this nightlog summary which do not correspond to any of the files contained in your data package.

On the other hand there is a small chance of having OBs or files delivered without nightlog entries. The most likely cause could be operational problems during the night.

2003-08-28 .
Today & tonight, we experiment network connection problems (actually: no connection at all) with Garching.
Thus, the incremental update for finding charts v1.7 could not be done, and now, at the time to execute the OB 148854, we don't have the finding chart and no connection to Garching to retreive it. The OB has been aborted.
The FORS2 queues are empty until 19 ST (with FORS2), so we switch to NACO for training (which queues are also empty). The telescope should be considered idle (no OBs to execute).
NACO: RTC tstore error, 10 min lost.

2003-08-31 10 minutes lost due to MIDAS crash.
Solved by restart of Midas and of the OB 148830.

UT4 technical = new ONECAL calibration for Nasmyth B (PPR 10815)
FORS2:
technical downtime = PPR 10814 (time that would have been used for FORS2
observations at beginning of night).
Misc = focus change
NACO technical downtime =
10min to go and adjust the regulation valve of Vis WFS (over-cooling) - related to PPR 10810)
30min = PPR 10312
We also had a scanning problem (PPR 10513) but no time has been accounted for that.

2003-10-03 Detail of downtime:
11min execution downtime: started wrong OB by mistake.
20 min tech. = PPR#10932
Please note that even though tonight is meant to be a NACO visitor night, we do FOSR2 service all night.
There is 9hrs 2 min of 'visitor downtime', due to the on-going cool down of CONICA after the power cut.

2003-11-21 The first part of the night was used to carry out a technical test with NACO, as

2003-12-24 At the beguinning of the night there were thin cirrus. There were not FORS2 programs requiring such conditions so I started observing with NACO.
We changed to FORS2 at 1:54 UT. It took us 7 minutes to change from NACO to FORS2.
From 00:31 to 00:59 I tried to execute the OB 150649 with NACO.
It was not possible to measure the sky background in the IR WFS, so I aborted the OB and started a new one. The OB 150649 was observed during twilight, so there are not time losses.

General comments
At the beguinning of the night there were thin cirrus.
