Astronomical Data on the Web
This is a list of astronomical data available on the World Wide Web which
I put together for a lecture at the NEON
archive school, held at ESO in August 2006, organized by:
Thematic Archives , collections of
mission data by wavelength;
Integration Facilities , which
provide basic data on astronomical sources, ingest and collect catalogues and tables, and are linked to journals;
(Active) Missions and Ground-based
Archives , where the parenthesis refers to the fact that non-active missions
which are not archived anywhere else are also included;
(Mostly) Large Area Surveys
and Catalogues , where "large" means covering at least ~ 10% of the sky,
although a selection of some smaller-area surveys is also included;
Virtual Observatories .
This list is by no means supposed to be complete (especially so in terms
of planetary and solar data) but should provide a good starting point for
astronomers interested in multi-wavelength work.
