Welcome to Alessandro Caproni's home page

I don't know how you arrived here... probably by mistake... There is nothing really interesting to read in this page but at the same time you're kindly invited to browse just in case... I don't want to bother you with the details of all my life so I am trying to be short enough to avoid you google somewhere before reaching the end.

I was born in Cagliari, south Sardinia where I spent my first 18th years. Cagliari is a very nice place to live in. The weather is nice along the whole year, like a long yearly summer. People are kind and, food and wine very good.
Part of my hearth is still in Sardinia and I miss this wonderful island. And I miss my parents and my friends that I left years ago.

As a lot of sardinians, at 18th I left the island and went to Pisa to take my degree in Computer Science. There I knew a lot of students and had time to visit a lot of nice places just by car or train. That might sound normal to you but, believe me, it not for all the people living in island: they have to take a plane to go almost everywhere. That's the reason why a lot of my friends from Sardinia, knows much better Europe then Italy: why to take aplane to go in Rome if another plane at almost the same prize lands in Paris?

I began working some time before taking mi degree. At the university in Cagliari, and teaching computer science here and there. But I did not want to live there. As I said I love Sardinia but it is too little and far from the world for my taste. I wanted to have a working experience somewhere else in Europe and i sent my curricola here and there till I found two interesting offers. One at a London UniversitY and another one at the Osservatorio Astronomico di Trieste and I choosen the latter, of course. It is typical in the life: you search for something and when you have it, you simply decide to go for something else! Well, I think it should be more part of woman behavior..

So, I put a couple of boxes in my car and went to Trieste. What a nice place to liveI Nice beaches and Croatia very close. A lot of nice persons and parties and an interesting job at the observatory. What else? A wife of course! And here it is: I married Silvana, a Sardinian woman happy to live in another city,in 2000.

And what about living in Europe? What about an experience out of Italy? I never forgot and I took the chance to live in Canary working at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo in La Palma island. Not completely Europe I would say because yes it's true that La Palma is out of Italy (well even out of Europe!) but that is an italian telescope: it's full of italians working there!

Finally I received an offer from the Europen Souther Observatory and I prepared my stuff again and jumped in the first plane to Munich in Germany where I live since more then four years. The legend wants that I have found a place where I stop enjoying my wife and what the life will give me. kids? Who knows...

If you survived to the story and arrived here, it's time to go deeply in some of the issues touched upon:
