eclipse newsletter 4.1 |
Dear eclipse users, This latest eclipse release bring mostly bugfixes with respect to the previous version, which should hopefully make the code even more stable. As usual, new features are briefly described in the following page: new features in eclipse 4.1 From a command-line user's point of view, the interface has remained mostly the same. The only visible addition is support for image data coming from a running RTD session. While this is a major feature for Paranal users, this is likely to be of little interest to most eclipse users. If you are a C programmer and use eclipse to link against your code, you will find very deep changes, mostly in the domain of object detection. The routines in charge of detecting objects have been simplified to a much smaller amount of code, which should increase robustness by the same amount. The API is now hopefully simpler to use, offering for the moment two detection methods on images: a standard kappa-sigma clipping, and a still very experimental "square method", which should be used with care. The eclipse team itself is happy to announce that Yves Jung is now an International Staff Member in Garching, after having contributed 3 years to eclipse as a Paid Associate. Welcome to Yves' new contract! Many thanks to everybody for help and support! N. Devillard and Yves Jung Mon Sep 10 14:51:47 MET DST 2001
