eclipse newsletter 3.8

Dear eclipse users,

This release should not bring much novelty to most users, because most of you have updated their eclipse version as intermediate releases have been available. Now is the right time to stand back and have a look at what changed since version 3.7. Have a look at the "New features" entry from the main eclipse page.

eclipse has become a tool of choice for many observatories throughout the world. We are receiving bug reports and suggestions from litterally everywhere. Several observatories include now eclipse tools as part of their default processing packages and it has also become a part of the 'scisoft' distribution, born in ESO. This is very good news, because the more users there is, the better the package. Many thanks to all contributors!

Latest news:

• The eclipse team is shrinking: Thomas Rogon is leaving ESO after one and a half years of service. Thomas has contributed to the following areas: point-pattern matching, object detection and statistics (connected components), GUI generation, spectroscopy routines and lately long-wavelength jitter imaging.
• eclipse/python is still on its way, slowly growing. It is very hard to write down a list of classes that we believe will remain stable, so that people can base their software efforts on them without fear of having to rewrite everything every now and then. Once priority is given to this, the module should rapidly become available for download and testing. It will be advertised in its own then. Thanks to Roland and Danny for contributing so much of their time to making this module a reality.
