======================================================================== REFLEX HANDS-ON SESSION: XSHOOTER ======================================================================== ************************* *** XSHOOTER SOFTWARE *** ************************* You are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop with the EsoReflex XSHOOTER workflow and demo-data properly installed. The installation can be done into several ways: 1) via MacPorts (for OS operating systems); http://www.eso.org/sci/software/pipelines/installation/macports.html 2) via rpm (for Linux, Fedora 20-25, Scientific Linux 7 64 bits platforms); http://www.eso.org/sci/software/pipelines/installation/rpm.html 3) via an installation script install_exoreflex; The script can be found here: ftp://ftp.eso.org/pub/dfs/reflex/install_esoreflex The script supports Mac OS and Linux For the script installation, follow these steps: - make the script executable: chmod u+x install_esoreflex - execute the script by typing: ./install_esoreflex During the installation, you have to specify which workflow, pipeline, and demo datasets to install. Note: the workflow relies on a number of Python packages. Be sure they are present in your system or in your preferred miniconda environment. - matplotlib - wxPython - astropy - numpy - scipy More information on the installation procedure can be found in Section 2 of the Xshooter tutorial: ftp://ftp.eso.org/pub/dfs/pipelines/xshooter/xshoo-reflex-tutorial-2.16.pdf Note that Windows is not supported. Additional notes: ------------------ 1) Please make sure you have at least 80 Gb of data free in your hard-disk. This space is required for the input files and all the files that will be created during the reductions. If needed, you can use an external drive; in this case, please make sure that the name of the external disk does not contain spaces or special characters. Note that the software itself needs to be installed in your pc. 2) We strongly recommend to have a look at the reflex tutorial ftp://ftp.eso.org/pub/dfs/pipelines/xshooter/xshoo-reflex-tutorial-2.16.pdf 3) In particular for Mac users: bring a mouse! ************************** *** TRAINING DATASETS: *** ************************** In addition to the demo datasets that are available with the pipeline and workflows distribution, we can work on the following additional datasets; ftp://ftp.eso.org/pub/general/cmanara/reflex_hands_on/data/raw_data_J1604.zip ftp://ftp.eso.org/pub/general/cmanara/reflex_hands_on/data/raw_data_etaCar.zip If you do not have enough space in your laptop, you can copy and uncompress them in an external hard disk (please, make sure that the name of the external disk does not contain spaces or special characters). *************************** *** VISUALIZATION TOOLS *** *************************** We suggest that you install some kind of fits visualization tools. Some suggestions: ds9 (useful for images and 2D spectra) fv (useful for images, spectra, and fits tables) You can find them here: ds9: http://ds9.si.edu/site/Home.html fv: https://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/software/ftools/fv/ Some of them are also available via MacPorts and/or RPM.
