Title: Potential Sources of Oxygen on Early Earth Before the Great Oxygenation Event (GOE) Abstract: The potential for low levels of oxygen before the GOE raises the possibility that microaerophilic organisms might have arisen much earlier than previously thought. We discuss possible sources of these "whiffs" of oxygen and how they might have contributed to localized redox balance and trace metal bioavailability that could be involved in early evolution of life on Earth and other similar planets.
