The Friends of LISA (FOL) Committee wishes to solicit donations to be
used to help librarians from resource-poor countries to attend LISA IV.
Funds raised will cover their housing, a small per diem, registration
fees if necessary and, in some cases, travel expenses.

LISA I (Library and Information Services in Astronomy) was held in
Washington DC in 1988, LISA II was held in Garching, Germany, in 1995,
LISA III was held in Tenerife, Spain, in 1998.

LISA IV will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, in July 2002.

The Friends of LISA (FOL) Committee was able to raise funds from many
institutions and individuals for previous meetings, to the joy of grateful
librarians from all over the world.  Funds raised by FOL for LISA III,
for example, allowed 21 librarians from developing countries to attend
the meeting.  Their attendance enriched the meeting itself as well as
the individuals and instititutions thus assisted.

We would also like you to ask your parent institution if it could make
a donation.  A more detailed explanatory letter is available for this
purpose from any FOL Committee member.

Joyce Watson was an active participant at both LISA I and LISA II as
well as a dedicated librarian and leader in the realm of distribution
of astronomy literature; FOL believes donations to FOL in her honor are
a fitting remembrance.  We will keep track of those donations made in
Joyce's name and will acknowledge them accordingly.

(We have already received some donations from individuals in Joyce's memory.
We've also received some FOL contributions from vendors. We thank all those
donors.)

All donations will be acknowledged in conference materials
