On the ground floor, in a small room to the right of the entrance door, a terminal controls the Vaisala station, and routinely displays the most important weather parameters (obsolete since the info is available on-line). The wind lamp signals are also distributed from here (also obsolete).
The lift works.
On the 2d floor, the DENIS still has some equipment. This will soon be "permanently stored" or shipped back to France.
On the 3rd floor (observing floor), the electronic/computer room is located on the left. The control computer is located in a 2d room accessed from the 1st one.
Dome: On the South wall, a grey electric box controls the dome slit and wind screen. [ON] button will activate the box; this is needed only if the power had been cut or interrupted. [Selector] selects the function of the middle 3-position switch on the bottom, cycling through Dome Slit, Lower Wind Screen and Upper Wind Screen. The 3-position switch will activate these elements in one or the other direction. The dome slit works (maintenance/check 2002-06), the wind screens were not tested (and used to fail: don't use them).
Platform: On the floor, coming out from under the platform, lies the platform control paddle. To move up, press the [up] button for many seconds: 10sec can pass before the platform comes up. [down] to go down. The switch to the platform hydraulics is located next to the fork, on the N-E end of the platform (big black switch on a pole).
M1 cover: On the desk (East of the dome, in the place of drawers), a rack has a series of buttons. The orange one opens the M1 cover (keep pressed till the M1 is fully opened), the white one closes it (keep pressed...). For the french speakers, Alain Gilliottes proposes "Orange ou vert, blanc, c'est noir" (no comments).
East Rack contains a lot of obsolete IR equipment. The only useful part is the Focus Control, toward the top of the rack, with a series of switches and an (damaged) LCD display. One of the switch is [Remote] (for control by another computer, i.e. the DENIS one), or [Local] for control by the other switch [up] and [down]. The LCD display tries to show the encoder value (Focus mechanism has been maintained 2002-05).
TCS console On the S-E desk lie 4 venerable terminals. The useful one is the one on the left. Login= RS232 (not TCS as reported in a previous version), no password. The instructions are (almost) self explanatory. Beware that most command require the [Enter] button (soft key on the top of the keyboard), which is not the same as [Return]. Most of the operation is menu driven, using the 8 soft keys on the top of the keyboard.
Rack 1 contains only obsolete IR stuff.
Rack 2 contains the HP1000; its disk is located on the top of the rack. The power switch is located INSIDE the computer: open it with the key, and the switch is a big one on the left. The boot instructions are taped on the computer (they work provided that they are followed meticulosely).
Rack 3 contains the RA/Dec power amplifiers. Switch the rack on with the top control switch. Each ampli has its On/Off switch.
