This short technical report summarizes the activities that took place during Tech.Time at NTT, on the nights of Dec.14-17, 2002.
Hola todos, Finally, finally! here you have the technical report of the 4 technical nights. To make it simply: there was MANY different setups for EMMI and SOFI, and, lucky guys, we had 3 photometric nights. We also had a problem with CALOB (missing header keyword, problem report open), and a few little misconfigurations. It took 3 nights to organize all the files...
Here is the report, following the mails from Ela and Malvina. 1.
No section 2
(watch out: the exposure times might still be too big, check the spectra), bin 2 x 2 Done. 3 Std stars.
Done. 4 Std stars. ( [Grat #6, 550nm, slit 5.0, bin2], [Grat#7, 600nm, slit
5.0, bin2] ) - night 1
Done. 3 Std stars ( [Grat #6, 550nm, slit 5.0, bin2], [Grat#7, 600nm, slit 5.0,
bin2] ) - night 2
Done. 3 Std stars with Grat. #11, and #12. + 3 Std stars with #5 and #3
(ideal would be five fields at different airmasses)
Done. 4 Std stars with Filters U#602, B#603 (BIMG), and Filters R#608, I#610
(RILD) (night 2)
Done. 5 Std stars with Filters U#602, B#603 (BIMG), and Filters V#606, R#608,
I#610, r#773, i#774 and Bb#605 (night 3)
with all the set-ups you can manage: this is useful to determine the slit illumination function
Done. Grisms #1, #2, #6, #4, #7 (night 1)
Done. Grisms #3, #5 (night 3)
Done. Grating #7 [600 nm, bin 1]
rotate_to_slit , does it work? Extensive tests with Paul. Now it works fine. Paul even said that "since it works well for 2 stars, I can now make a RotateToSlit for 3 stars"...
The offset should be: -150", 72", 78", 78", 72"
To do the trick, use a focus sequence, with 5 positions and focus offset=0
That was tricky. We got the image, but not further tests were made (don't know if the MOS on EMMI works).
with I and R filters, ~15-25 exposures each, with jitter---> fringing pattern
Done. 2 fields, with I and R filters.
Beside being used for calibration, I would like to check the amount of contamination from sunlight (the dome looks pretty dark to me, but an observer has complained about it...)
Done with the calibration of the files above.
(if it is possible, last time there was still some problem pending). Not done. But I saw a mail from Paul a few minutes ago saying that he did it...
Done. See in the TechDec02 (EMMI) directory.
Not sure that it's done... I have no idea the color it is. Duncan said that it should be black...
Ha ha ha... Before continuing, let me just mention that with the program above, thanks! for the photometric conditions, there is 27 different setups... [Take a breath, think about it 2 seconds, and get a drink.] This is not counting with the program of SOFI, and the service... (and not mentionning again the bloody problem with calob which messed all up). This had strong consequences for the SOFI program, since it took so much time to make the calibrations of EMMI, that not all calibrations for SOFI are available.
The directory /data/NTTOPS/NttTeamTech/Emmi/TechDec02/ is organized by nights.

HERE there was the problem with the missing header keyword (the slit name) with
CALOB. Be careful with the data, and the arcs!!

Nothing in EMMI, was not photometric anyway, clouds at the end of the night.

4 Std stars and 2 frames for the programme of Guzzo. (night - 2)
5 Std stars and 2 frames for the programme of Natta. (night - 3)
None of the programs are completed, but close to it.
Other: A few frames for me, a few frames for Dominique.
6- Concluding remarks
I think that's it. I must say that without the help of Dominique, who managed a few important parts of this program to the addition of constant support and checks, it would have certainly not possible. And for all the setups (!!) and calibrations done although it was a mess because of CALOB, you'll have chocolate and cerveza, Jorge! I promise!
Notes:
1. I will not make the CDs. Anyway, Ela is coming up soon, and I'll be there
with Malvina soon in January.
2. I hope to have not forgot something. Never sure...
3. Ela, I sware, I also tried to get these echelle throughputs, but at that
time I only increased my knowledge of echelle spectra....
If I don't see you all before the end of the year, Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, and toute cette sorte de choses... Cedric - going to vacations for a while...
