Components with strong outgassing

VITON O-ring

VITON O-ring

The VITON O-ring is needed as a sealing for the vacuum in the cryostat. For a short time, this probe showed a very rich transient spectrum. It cannot easily be distinguished, whether this was an intrinsic emission of volatile substances or caused by air contaminants sticking to the elastic material before insertion of the probe.

Additionally, the following lines appeared permanently:

Line [amu] Fragment ions
42 C3H6+
55 C4H7+
56 C4H8+ ?
57 C4H9+
67 C5H7+ ?
69 CF3+
71 (not identifiable)

Analog spectrum of the VITON O-ring at 25° C.
