Looking back in time

Following the widely-accepted Big-Bang theory, the Universe formed in a violent, still on-going expansion that started about 13.700 million years ago. Due to the finite speed of light, the further we look in space, the more we see back in time. Thanks to powerful machines such as the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT), we can observe very distant galaxies and therefore, see how the Universe was like at its early beginnings and how it has evolved up to the present time.
