Mounted image 005: Chajnantor Plateau from the West at Sunset in 2005

After driving some 30 kilometres up the access road, this view across the northern part of the Chajnantor plain appeared just before sunset. From left to right are Cerro Chajnantor with the APEX telescope, the access road, which will be used by the ALMA antenna transporters, Cerro Chascon, and the 5000-metre altitude plateau, where the antennas will be located.
