The ALMA camp

View of the ALMA camp, located at 2900 metres altitude on the road to Chajnantor, some 50 km from San Pedro de Atacama, in the II Region of Chile. The picture was taken in June 2010, looking toward the southeast. On the background, three ALMA antennas are partially visible at the ALMA Operation Support Facility (OSF) building. ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, is the largest astronomical project in existence and is a truly global partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia in cooperation with the Republic of Chile. ESO is the European partner in ALMA.
