The VLT's helpful companions

These strange, segmented balls are three of the VLT's four Auxiliary Telescopes. It is their job to feed light to the VLT's Interferometer. They can be moved independently along tracks to adjust the effective size of the telescope that they, along with the VLT's main units, combine to form.
