The VISTA camera

The 4.2m infrared telescope, located on a peak about 1.5km from Paranal's summit, will be equipped with a giant, 64-megapixel infrared camera. The camera is operated under vacuum at very low temperature so to be sensitive to the infrared light. The image shows the large lens that constitutes the entrance of the camera. The whole camera will be attached at the bottom of the telescope.
