The full Chilean night sky

The Milky Way stretches above the Chilean night Sky as seen in this crisp, clear ultra HD view taken with a fish-eye lens to give a full perspective suitable for a fulldome planetarium projection. The sky is enhanced by a bright yellow/orange aurora-like shimmer, called airglow, which is caused by light-emitting chemical reactions in the atmosphere. Normally, those emissions are not so strong, but the night this image was taken they were particularly bright, producing this unusual but colourful picture.
