Laser of the VLT in UHD

This is the view from next to one of the four Unit Telescopes of the Very Large Telescope array (VLT) at the Paranal Observatory. The laser beam creates a yellow artificial “star” in sodium cloud around the Earth. This provides a bright reference source to correct atmospheric turbulence in real time in fields devoid of bright enough natural stars.
