Stars above powered Paranal

Hot air emanating from a chimney blurs and distorts the background night sky in spectacular fashion. The chimney is attached to the generator that keeps ESO's Paranal Observatory powered. Paranal is so remote that the Chilean power grid does not reach it, so it relies entirely on its own power station.
