Auxiliary Telescope on Paranal

A single 1.8-metre Auxiliary Telescope (AT2) is seen beneath a dark blue sky studded with stars. The brightest star, seen just to the left of the dome, is alpha Centauri. ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) is comprised of four ATs and four 8.2-metre Unit Telescopes (UT) — unseen in this image — and is located at ESO's Paranal Observatory, located in northern Chile.
