The Active Phasing Experiment (APE) installed on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) at Paranal. APE is designed to validate technologies for accurate alignment of the segmented mirror of the forthcoming European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), by testing them on the VLT. Image taken in March 2009.
