APEX image calendar, August 2010 — APEX before sunset

The APEX mirror, 12-metres in diameter, points toward the afternoon sky, seeming almost eager for the night’s observation run of milimetre and submilimetre wavelength astronomy from the Chajnantor plateau in Chile's Atacama region. APEX looks at the cold, dusty, and far distant Universe, often difficult to observe with other types of telescopes.
