SEST in the desert

This is the Swedish-ESO Submillimetre Telescope (SEST) at La Silla. It has a diameter of 15 metres, but was decommissioned in 2003. Even though it is not collecting data anymore, SEST is a good model for beautiful pictures. In this image the impressive landscape of the Atacama desert is stretching out behind SEST, with the only hints of civilization given by the lights in the very distance.
