Lights under the Milky Way

The Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) is situated more than 5000 metres above sea level in the Chilean desert, on the Chajnantor plateau. Here, the dry air and thin atmosphere allow a spectacular view into the Universe and make it the perfect place for such a sensitive telescope. An artificial green glow illuminates some of ALMA's 66 antennas, as they observe the Milky Way above.
