Kosmischer Feuerball über ALMA
Dieses wunderbare neue Bild, das während einer Zeitrafferaufnahmeserie am Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) aufgenommen wurde, ist ein weiteres dramatisches Ultra High Definition-Foto von der ESO Ultra HD-Expedition. ALMA liegt auf 5000 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel auf dem abgelegenen und leeren Chajnantor-Plateau in den chilenischen Anden und ist für die vier ESO-Fotobotschafter[1] das zweite Ziel auf ihrer 17-tägigen Reise. Die Fotobotschafter sind mit hochmodernen Ultra HD-Geräten ausgestattet, die ihnen helfen, die wahre Schönheit von Ansichten wie diesem Bild einzufangen [2][3].
Einige der 66 Präzisionsantennen von ALMA sind hier sichtbar, die Antennenschüsseln zeigen hoch nach oben und untersuchen kühle Wolken im interstellaren Raum blicken tief in die Vergangenheit unserer geheimnisvollen kosmischen Ursprünge.
Die spektakuläre Lichtspur über ALMA ist eine Sternschnuppe, die das Bild mit einem hellen Farbstreifen zerteilt. Smaragdgrüne, goldene und leicht karmesinrote Farben loderten hell, als der Meteor in der Erdatmosphäre verglüht ist und seine feurige Reise über den Himmel gemacht hat. Wenn der Hochgeschwindigkeits-Feuerball – der in Wahrheit ein kleines Steinfragment aus dem interplanetaren Raum ist – auf die Atmosphäre der Erde trifft, heizt er sich auf, das Oberflächenmaterial des Meteors verdampft und bleibt in der leuchtenden Spur zurück. Diese Leuchtspuren verschwinden innerhalb weniger Sekunden, wurden aber hier durch einen Druck auf den Auslöseknopf eingefangen.
In der Bildmitte leuchten hell der hellste Stern im Sternbild Jungfrau, bekannt unter dem Namen Spica, und unser Nachbarplanet Mars – kosmische Zuschauer dieses feurigen Abstiegs, während sie über dem Horizont aufgehen.
Die Ultra HD-Expedition startete am 25. März 2014 in Santiago de Chile. Dieses Foto wurde in der achten Nacht der Reise auf den Chajnantor-Plateau aufgenommen. Aktuell ist das Team am La-Silla-Observatorium, der ersten Anlage der ESO in Chile, und übermorgen werden sie nach ihrer letzten Nacht die Rückreise antreten. Frei zugängliche Ultra HD-Inhalte, die auf der Expedition erzeugt wurden, werden demnächst online von der ESO als kristallklares, atemberaubendes Ultra HD-Material angeboten – und werden das Universum näher als jemals zuvor zeigen. Dieses Bild wurde vom ESO-Fotobotschafter und Videofilmer Christoph Malin aufgenommen.
