Dramatic sunset at the OSF

Dramatic sunset over the Atacama salt-lake, seen from the ALMA Operations Support Facility (OSF), located at an altitude of 2900 metres, on the road to Chajnantor, near San Pedro de Atacama, in the II Region of Chile. The OSF is the main centre of ALMA activities, such as science operations and regular maintenance of the antennas. Around the OSF is located the ALMA camp, where the staff live during their working shifts. Once the construction work at the Array Operations Site (AOS) ends, human activities at the high site (5000 m) will be reduced to a minimum.
