1 INTRODUCTION

The software described in this manual is intented to be used in the ESO VLT Software Project.

1.1 PURPOSE

This document is the User Manual of the tools for automated testing system developed for the VLT Software project.

The manual assumes that the reader is a software developer having a basic knowledge of developing VLT Software both on workstation and on LCU using CCS and LCC, especially for what concerns workstation and LCU environments.

In addition to the Introduction section, this manual contains two major sections:

User Guide: describes the features of the tools and includes examples of "how to use it".

Reference: describes all the commands available to the user.

1.2 SCOPE

This manual applies to version 1.42 or higher of the tat (Tools for Automated Testing) module.

This module does not handle graphical user interface software, it handles only software that can be tested using simple batch programs.

1.5 GLOSSARY

environment

combination of specific processes and applications, sharing a communication chanel and other ressources (e.g. database). A workstation environment is based on a RTAP environment and a LCU environment is based on LCC.

1.6 STYLISTIC CONVENTIONS

The following styles are used:

bold
in the text, for commands, filenames, pre/suffixes as they have to be typed.
italic
in the text, for parts that have to be substituted with the real content before typing.
teletype
for examples.
<name>
in the examples, for parts that have to be substituted with the real content before typing.

bold and italic are also used to highlight words.
