                     VLT-SW-VLT2008 - Known Problems
                     ===============================

X session login
---------------

The first time you want to connect from the login screen to a different
user than root, please select the type of session (e.g. Xfce).

ESO-specific entries in automounter configuration
-------------------------------------------------
(Only external consortia are concerned)

During the installation the file
     /etc/auto_staging
is created with references to ESO machines.

The entries may cause long delays in the login process and other activities,
especially when network access is invloved.

So the ESO-specific entries should be removed (commented out) from the file
     /etc/auto_master

The script (executed as user 'root')
     auto.sh
automatically performs the required adaptations.

LCU reboots with unknown cause
------------------------------

On one LCU of the ATs, sporadic reboots were observed with the VLT2008
release. This LCU just reboots itself, without any message on the console
or the logMonitor. The LCU is equipped with the following boards:
Single MVME-2604 CPU, old CCD, 1x MAC4, 1x VME4-SA, STRAP. The origin of
the reboots is still unknown. Therefore this problem could appear on
other systems as well.

If the problem is caused by a software error or can be fixed by software
ESO will provide a patch as soon as the reason has been found.

LCU Interrupt vectors
---------------------

The mapping of interrupt vectors for the LCUs has changed with the FEB2007
release. If you plan to update from a previous release to VLT2008 please
check the LCC Release Notes for further information.

Affected by this problem are non-standard boards with interrupt vectors
between 0x70 - 0x82. Furthermore the interrupt vectors for the MVME167 CPU
have been moved.
