GIRAFFE: Setups
A number of standard settings exists for GIRAFFE. A setting is a unique
combination of:
- fibre system (Medusa1/2; IFU1/2; Argus),
- central wavelength (in nm),
- grating order, and
- grating name (HR or LR).
The keys INS.SLIT.NAME and INS.EXP.MODE contain the complete setting
information. Alternatively, INS.SLIT.NAME plus INS.GRAT.NAME plus
INS.GRAT.WLEN plus INS.GRAT.ORDER are also unique.
Science data taken in these settings automatically receive a set of daytime
calibrations. Quality Control and trending services are provided for these
settings.
The complete table of all GIRAFFE settings is available here: HR,
LR.
Most of the settings have a good pipeline extraction and wavelength
calibration. All of them have master calibrations in the archive, except for:
HR379.0 and LR385.8 where the pipeline usually fails in the localization step
(flat-field).
A total of 31+8 standard settings are defined per slit unit (fibre system).
With the slit units Medusa1, Medusa2, IFU1, IFU2 and Argus, a total of 195
settings are defined.
