The Results
The Upgrade of the VLT-ASM Seeing Monitor is complete, commissioning at La Silla was successful. Integration at Paranal is foreseen in March 1998. The implementation of the coherence monitor mode (monitoring the temporal behaviour of the wavefront) is underway
And La Silla ?
A Similar Upgrade of the LA SILLA Seeing Monitor is a necessity: The 1985 built DIMMs are becoming less and less reliable (downtime at La Silla was 30% of spectroscopic time in 1997). In the same time external seeing data have never been so demanded by the La Silla users. There is now a growing pressure for better reliability of real time external seeing monitoring.
