New beasts in the transient zoo =============================== Recent or upcoming large-scale surveys will deliver in the near future a wealth of information on transient events. In many cases this may expand our understanding of events that are known to exist, but also new sorts of transients are most likely to be discovered. In my talk I will discuss several astrophysical systems that produce "non-standard" transient events. These include tidal disruptions of stars by black holes and explosive events that result from the interaction between two white dwarfs.
